Australia Post published retail prices, calculated for the parcel you're actually shipping — your real boxes, cubic weight included. No Australia Post account or contract required.
Shipping gets priced as if it were a weight problem. It isn't. Two candles don't become one arbitrary kilogram on the way to the post office — they become a specific box, with specific dimensions, and Australia Post charges for whichever is greater: what it weighs, or how much room it takes up.
Price from product weight alone and you are guessing. The guess is cheap on small, dense orders and expensive on bulky ones, which is why flat rates quietly lose money on exactly the orders you most wanted.
A customer reaches checkout. Shopify calls TellShip with what's in the cart and where it's going.
TellShip packs the cart into the boxes you told it you use, following your packing rules — and works out the cubic weight.
That parcel is priced against Australia Post's published retail rate card, from the location holding the stock.
Shopify shows the customer the services you've chosen to offer, named and adjusted the way you want them.
TellShip prices Australia Post services, so installation is limited to merchants based in Australia.
Your store needs carrier-calculated shipping — available on Shopify Advanced and Plus, or on any Shopify plan billed annually. Without it, Shopify never asks an app for a rate.
Australia Post's own ceiling, not ours. Product dimensions are optional — without them parcels are priced on the box, with them on measured sizes.
>/ And what you don't need: no Australia Post account, no contract, no API credentials, no rate tables to maintain. Prices come from the published retail rate card.
Describe the boxes and satchels on your packing bench once. Every quote is for a parcel you could actually pack, not a notional one.
Bulky and light is the case that breaks weight-based pricing. TellShip computes cubic weight from the parcel's dimensions and prices on whichever is greater.
Product dimensions live on your variants. With them, a part-full box is priced as the parcel it really is rather than as the full carton.
Multi-location ship-from prices from the warehouse Shopify says holds the stock, or routes by your own postcode rules. Distance is most of the price in Australia.
Standard and Express, priced from Australia Post's published retail rate card. Above 5 kg, from their published distance-based guides.
No labels, no manifests, no tracking. If you already print in Starshipit, Shippit or MyPost, TellShip solves the half you're missing and leaves the rest alone.
Shipping apps hand you a number and leave. When a customer asks why checkout said $18.40, or why Express didn't appear, or why one postcode got nothing at all, you're left reconstructing it.
TellShip records every quote and every refusal, with the parcel that produced it. The box it chose, the weight it used, the services it considered, and what came back. You can answer the question instead of guessing at it.
It also makes the app auditable. A price you can explain is a price you can trust enough to leave switched on.
An illustration of the fields an entry keeps, not a screenshot, and prices are left out on purpose — a real entry carries the amount, but no example on a marketing page should be mistaken for a quote.
A correct price isn't always the price you want to show. Everything below sits between the calculation and the customer.
Australian Shopify stores that have already sorted labels and fulfilment — Starshipit, Shippit, MyPost — and whose remaining gap is what to charge at checkout. It fits best where parcels vary in size, where shipping is a meaningful share of order value, and where flat rates are quietly losing money on long-distance or bulky orders.
It's a poor fit if you offer free shipping on everything. That's a cost-reporting problem, not a quoting one, and TellShip won't help with it.
TellShip Rates isn't on the App Store yet. Leave your store's name and we'll tell you the day it is.
